Coffee at D.O.C : Marc Rogerson

Marc Rogerson is an artist, sculptor and installation artist. As a fellow creator of sculptures, paintings and in particular portraits, we have a lot to talk about, even though he has a very different artistic style to my own. For instance, his portraits are often much more impressionistic than mine. His sculptures are a combination of fluidity and abstraction, lending motifs from nature such as the curve of a leaf, or the random shapes of a naked flame. I’ve known Marc for around 20 years, and we semi-regularly meet at DOC Espresso in Carlton. There we discuss art, along with life, the universe and everything. Since we’ve both been part of the local arts scene for so long, we often reminisce about times gone by, and talk about fellow artists who are still creating, or have got a “conventional” job instead, or gone onto great things, or otherwise seemingly disappeared off the face of the planet.
