Mil Hanna

Hundreds of thousands of people in Melbourne would know the name Mil “the cranium” Hanna because he was a wingman for the Carlton AFL club in the 80s and 90s, earning a pretty solid reputation as a damn good footy player. Myself, on the other hand, know him as both an ex-footy player, and also the guy who ran the cafe across from the Evelyn for a decade or two. For around 15 or 20 years, I can’t quite remember, he ran the Fitz Cafe, literally opposite the Evelyn, which is still a pretty stylish and popular place to this day. Being run by an ex-footy player, the Fitz at the time attracted current and former AFL players, many of them stars in their own right, who would have lunch or dinner (and a few bevvies) at the Fitz, and then kick on at the Evelyn. Mil also sometimes used upstairs at the Fitz as an art gallery, and myself, Julien and Joseph had an exhibition there once. The exhibition was entertaining from a few points of view, which can only really be described over a pint.
